Thérese Bann, classical and traditional flautist, will join Sinead to provide the musical backdrop to Brigid’s epic story.
“This is my attempt to untangle the overlapping mythology of the goddess from the legend of the saint. It’s just a fascinating subject and it’s very telling that this untamed woman has been a role model for Irish women down through the ages. It’s passionate, epic and mournful but, true to our national weakness for the lighthearted, there should be a laugh or two.”
The legends of Brigid the Goddess have long lain dormant under the legend of Brigid the Saint. This Imbolc, storytelling champion Sinead Rice McAleavey, will untangle their tales and bring the goddess back into focus. The epic story of Brigid, one of the firstborn of the Celtic gods, is uniquely rich and entertaining, and is guaranteed to throw light on the origins of the Irish gods themselves as well as the beliefs of pre-Christian Ireland.
