Connecting the Community Project supports those aged 65+ and their carers keep connected in towns and surrounding rural areas of Lurgan, Portadown, Banbridge and Craigavon. The project is managed by Laurencetown, Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association’s (LLTCA).

Connecting the Community offers 1-1 support with:

  • Technology

Offering introductions to Zoom, emails, internet, using a mobile, laptop and much more

  • Befriending

Having a bit of company at your home with a volunteer visitor to either have a chat, do an activity, go for a cuppa or out for a dander.

  • Time out for Carers

Supporting much valued carers and those they care for to have a couple of hours to themselves.

  • Signposting

We also give the 65+ and their carers information about local activities, support groups/ services that they could benefit from.

If you or anyone you know could avail of any of the support we offer, get in touch or refer using the link below. Anyone can refer (self, carer, family member, social worker, GP etc)

Volunteer with Connecting the Community

Could you offer over 65+ a bit of company for a few hours a week?
By volunteering with Connecting the Community, you would be doing one of the following –
  • Befriending

A friendly, regular visit from a volunteer to someone over 65. You might visit someone at home for a chat and/or take them out for a cuppa or share similar hobbies.

  • Giving a family member/carer some time out

A short, planned time for family carers through befriending the person they care for. You might have a chat, play games, watch TV or go for a short walk.

  • Helping with ICT

Supporting over 65s build confidence using technology. You might show them how to use their phone, explain online safety or help them practise using apps.

We have a volunteer opportunity for everyone, you can fill out the application form below and we will be in touch or if you want more information – contact us today.

Connecting the Community Review

LLTCA have been reviewing Connecting the Community as they go along.  We’ve carried out an Interim Evaluation and have just completed a Social Return on Investment (SROI).  We are delighted for every £1 invested, £3.22 of social and economic value was returned.  This is despite the project being impacted significantly by Covid-19.
